ABOUT THE CENTER FOR LARGE-SCALE DATA SYSTEMS
A BRIEF HISTORY OF CLDS
CLDS, a designated Center of Excellence at SDSC, was established in academic year 2012-2013 with the goal of conducting high-impact,
multi-disciplinary, program level research on critical data technologies and their economic, social and civic impacts. CLDS's first generation of research – big data benchmarking, principles and practices in valuing data assets, and the long-running How Much Information? program, formed the Center's founding work, gaining national and international attention. Combined with the Center's two annual data technology events, Data West in December, and Data East in June, the next generation of CLDS research focuses on data and information measurement, systems architecture and performance, data governance and data responsibility, the economic and market impacts of complex platform systems, and studies of privacy and trust in the evolving data economy, including high-impact, public-private sectors such as healthcare, energy and transportation systems.
